If you ride a mountain bike, road bike, are commuting on a bicycle or just ride for the simple joy of riding a bike, we need your support. Now is your chance to show everyone your passion. Displaying the bike plate on your car lets everyone who sees it know you enjoy being outdoors riding your bike for recreation, saving carbon emissions by commuting, sharing family time on the bike path and most of all working to stay physically active and reducing the risks of diabetes and heart disease.
Purpose Funds from the plate will go towards a grant program. As the main agency, CDPH will oversee the program. We envision grants to promote cycling as a physical activity, create safe places to ride, support earn-a-bike programs for at-risk youth, and conduct safety education programs for drivers and cyclists sharing the road. Grants will be available to statewide coalitions, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, county health departments and other organizations. Funds will not be awarded for general infrastructure projects.
After 7,500 pre-paid applications are collected and submitted to the California DMV, the DMV will begin the new plate program implementation process which can take up to an additional 12 months. Sequential plates are $50. Personalized plates are $103. CDPH will refund pledges if we do not reach 7,500 presales required to produce the plate.
